Real Food

About two weeks ago my family started making the switch over to "Real Food" by the term real food I mean nothing processed.  A pretty easy rule is if you read it and you know what it is, you can eat it.   So over the past two weeks our breakfast and lunches have been pretty much Real Food its been our dinners that have been processed.  Using up the things we had left.

This weekend we got started FOR REAL

First up, I joined the Organic Produce Co-op at Natures Garden in Friendswood
I opted for the medium fruit and vegtable package with a small side box of fruit

This was $30.00  I think for organic fruits and vegtables its a good deal.  Only problem is, I dont know what everything is, so if you know what that large mellon is, feel free to let me know. LOL

When I got the box home, I washed all the fruits and put them in the fruit bowl in the pantry, I have made all the snack food easily accesable to the kids.  We have two bowls in the pantry, one with fruit, and one with granola, nuts, and dried fruit.  In the fridge there are two bowls, one with bags of cubed cheese, one with hard boiled eggs.

Since we are going non-processed this means we make or buy our bread fresh.
I made home made rolls following this recipe:

1/2 cup sugar
3 packages yeast (2 1/4 tsp per package)
2 teaspoons salt
6 cups whole wheat flour
1 stick butter melted
2 cups luke warm water

Combine sugar, yeast salt and flour.  Heat butter and water.  Add to flour mixture and beat.  Kneed 5 min.  Let rise about 2 hours (till doubbled) bake as loaf or make rolls or buns.  Bake at 350 for 30 min (for buns pictured above)

We also made tortillas recipe found here

Both my husband and I were suprised how easy it was to make tortillas.  It was super easy  and we use them to make sandwiches, and tons of other things.

Well thats all for now, I will post about more of our real food adventure later

My husband and I were inspired by the blog 100 days of real food  On this blog she explaines the rules in greater detail and why this is something you should consider doing.

Sea Monkeys - What are they?

I was at Walmart the other day and I saw sea monkeys in the kids toy section.  And I thought to myself "how cool"  I almost bought some.  But the wording on the package freaked me out.

Sea-Monkeys® are a true miracle of nature. They exist in suspended animation inside their tiny eggs for many years. The instant-life crystals, in which the eggs are enclosed, preserve their viability and help to extend still further their un-hatched life span! Sea-Monkeys are real Time-Travelers asleep in biological time capsules for their strange journey into the future!

Say what?  So I decided to go to the web and find out what they were.  Everything on the actual Sea Monkey web page freaked me out.  So I went to Wikipedia.  They broke it down in normal words for me

Sea-Monkeys is a brand name for brine shrimp – a group of crustaceans that undergo cryptobiosis  – often sold in hatching kits as novelty aquarium pets.

There was that so hard?  Nothing scary about shrimp

So It was a go
I was so excited, I wanted to do it with out the kids.  But I thought that would be odd.  So I just purified the water & had it set up when they woke up in the morning.

We added our Sea Monkeys & then we waited 5 days

Then I feed them, and then nothing.  I have no idea what went wrong.  How does one kill sea monkeys?  I don't know.  But apparently I did.   Oh well, maybe we will try again.

Maybe not

For My Brother

My brother has this dog, that he loves.  But the dog lives here with my mom.

So Michael, I thought you would want to see all the fun Blade had tonight.  Eating the eggs

Of course I had to get her with confetti
 She loved it
Your welcome
Love and miss you Michael :)

Easter Egg Dive

Today we took the kids to the city Easter Egg dive.  It was a blast.  First age group up was 3-4.  They put out the eggs and Eli got ready

He was off!!  Filling up his bag with daddys help

Water and eggs, what fun!

Then Noah was up

Anxiously waiting his turn

His group was  a little more crowded, but I still managed to get some good pictures

Noah's loot!  After the hunt they were able to trade their eggs in for a sack of candy.  I call that a win win.

Busy Boxes

Before I had the baby I made some busy boxes.
The other day we pulled one out while I was feeding the baby.  This one has colored rice, and different animals (dinosaurs, birds, wild animals)
I was so amazed to watch them play and see them using their imaginations.  They made nest for the birds in the rice.  They talked for the animals, it was so cute.
some creative play happened in the box

Some outside the box (amazingly all the rice stayed in the box)

Fun was had by all & everyone was entertained during feeding time!

Peep Presents

I love Peeps, all the beautiful spring colors.
And my kids love to eat them.   So its a win win.

I saw an adorable peeps gift on Pintrest, and decided to make a version of it for my kids class Easter gifts.  First I needed peeps.  Lots of them, and lots of colors.

I opened them all and sorted by color

My peeps army.  I am aware I have a problem.  My husband told me.  I love sorting things by color.  I sort bags of M&M's, I sort rocks.  My brother used to mess up my sorting on purpose.  Because he loves to mess with me.
Once everything was sorted, then I bagged them.

And added these cute little labels out of spring scrap booking paper.

Now the presents were ready for all of their "PEEPS"

Retro Baby

My mother washed all of my brothers clothes from 1987 and brought them to my house.  We had a miscommunication, apparently.  Michael had asked me to have her find baby blue bear and give it to him.  Well no baby blue bear but we have a sur-plus of retro baby wear.  My plan was to stick the crap in the closet and move on with life.  Mom had other plans.

Every time she is at the house and has a chance to change him she puts him in one of Michael's outfits.  She is doing this on purpose.  So anyway there he is looking like a goofball laying on the floor and mom is chatting away to Wes about how she is going to take me shopping and he would not understand but women like their family's to all match on Easter.  But he may not go for that.  And Wes replies "why not, I have the Fresh Prince of Bel air laying in there on the floor"

Priceless, that comment was almost worth my son being dressed up like an idiot.

"Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped upside down, Id like to take a minute, just sit right there, I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called bel-air"

Get that song out of your head.  Your Welcome.

Draw Something

You may be familiar with this new game you can play on line with your facebook friends, and other random people if you choose to do so.  I have started playing it, mostly late at night while I am up feeding the baby.  If the kids happen to see me playing it in the morning they want to play it too.  Some of you have gotten drawing from them when I did not know my ipad had been taken.  Oops!

Well in my quest to limit electronics I told them we were going to play the real draw something.  You know, something that's a little like pictionary.

We got our dry erace board and some markers and I made up a bunch of words and wrote them on index cards.  As we guessed I actually was able to come up with a lot more words and I added those.

We had so much fun, if they could not read a word Wes or I read it to them and then we would just sit out that game.

This is a lamp, like I said if you have gotten a drawing from him on drawsomething I am sorry.
