Meet Mr. Big Guy

Meet Mr. Big Guy

Mr. Big Guy was found in my step dads co-workers front yard.  And then I was called, because everyone knows that I am sucker for strays.  Which I don't think is a bad thing.

So I made a trip to Houston at 6 am to pick him up

We brought him home, and named him Mr. Big Guy

He is a sweet heart.  You can tell he had a good home & I bet they miss him.

But we love him now

Welcome Home Mr. Big Guy!!!!

Opie

Meet Opie

Opie is a full blooded Bassett hound.  He has a really cool story.  Weird but still very neat that we got him.  Some one took Opie's mom and dad to a pound, they did not want to pay the drop off fee so they left.  The next day his mommy and daddy were tied to a mail box at a vets office.  Opie's mommy delivered her puppies a few days later.  I found Opie online at a Dallas shelter & knew the odds of a pure Bassett puppy popping up were rare.

We drove to Dallas to get him and added him to our brood.

He is all energy

Duke

Meet Duke!!!!

Duke was adopted from Dakota Rescue, here is his original add

Duke

Meet Duke- Dakota Rescue pulled him from MCAS when his time was up. He was also found as a stray. He is a very sweet, calm boy. He gets along great with other dogs, is kennel trained, and housebroken. He loves to lay on his doggy bed. He is so handsome with beautiful black and white fur with just a touch of brown. He's currently in foster care just waiting for his forever home. Please consider Duke, not high energy, just loves to be with people.

There was something about Duke that I spoke to me.  I knew he was our dog.  We drove out to get him and he barked when we walked in.  Like he knew we were there for him (he rarely greets people with a bark.)

Duke was estimated to be 7 when we got him.  I think he is around 10 now.  (Bassets have an estimated life span of 14 years)  He is a sweet boy.  Living with us has definitely brought him life.  When we first got him he was slow.  I think the boys made him feel young again.  Now he runs, plays barks, He's a fun old guy.

Getting a bath!!!!

Rex

Rex was adopted from Dakota Rescue, his original add is below:

Duke
Meet Rex – Basset Hound (Lemon), approx 4-5 years old, weighs 40-45 lbs. UTD on all his shots, neutered, and microchipped. He too came to us from MCAS. His previous owner died and the grown adults did not want to keep their dad's basset. They turned him into a shelter knowing that he could be put to sleep. Duke is a great dog, loves and gets along great with other dogs, kennel trained, calm and quiet dog. He is currently staying at our 2nd Chance Ranch just patiently waiting for his "forever" home. Please be that family for him.
**************************************

Well we were his family!  When we took Rex to the vet they estimated him to be 7 not 4 or 5, but its hard to know.  Rex acts old, older than Duke.  We guess they are the same age, but we are not sure.  Rex could act old for several reasons, if he lived with an older man, he could just be slow.

Rex enjoys being pet, sleeping and hanging out with his friends.

As you can see, baths are really not his thing.

Unfortunately, Rex passed away on February 6th 2013. He was surrounded by his family and we pet him and cried over him.  He raised his head when we would talk to him, and when Noah was crying telling him how much he loved him he raised his head and put it in Noah's lap.  It took a lot of effort for him to do that.

I know he is in a better place and we miss him very much.  But I am glad we got to love him for the two years we had him and that he knew for at least part of his life that he was special.

When I brought our baby home from the hospital and put him in his swing, Rex immediately went and laid underneath his swing.  They were good buddies & were always together.  You can see cute pictures HERE

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Her son had out grown him & they did not realize how long they live (about 14 years!!! WOW)

He is really cool, he is about two feet long, loves cricket, kale, other lizards and fresh veggies an fruit.  We placed him in the living room at the hubby's request.  He has been a lot of fun to watch.
